Community Safe Rooms
Safe Rooms
Lebanon R-III School District owns and operates multiple FEMA-certified safe rooms, designed first and foremost to protect students and staff during tornadoes and extreme high-wind events that occur during school hours.
When a tornado watch or warning is issued during the school day, Lebanon community members will be directed to the FEMA safe room at Boswell Elementary. If a tornado watch or warning is issued at 6:00 p.m. or later, community members may access any of the district’s safe rooms, including those at Lebanon Middle School, Maplecrest Elementary, or Boswell Elementary.
Our safe rooms are an important part of keeping both our students and our community safe during severe weather events.
Storm Shelter Opening Notifications
Lebanon Storm Shelters are made available when the City of Lebanon falls under a Tornado Warning or when the Office of Emergency Management determines it is required. To keep residents informed about shelter openings, the City of Lebanon utilizes both our Facebook Page along with the Nixel Emergency Alert Texting System. To sign up for this service, you can visit the City of Lebanon website or simply text LebanonMO to 888-777. Stay safe and connected!
Important Notice: While we want to ensure your safety, please be aware that the city cannot assume responsibility for any accidents that may occur during travel to the shelters in inclement weather. Take all necessary precautions and prioritize your safety when making the decision to seek shelter. Always have a way to receive official weather warnings and a plan for when action is required. The official government weather source for the Lebanon area is the National Weather Service in Springfield, Missouri. It is also wise to have a weather radio connected and ready to go.
